Step # 2 –Using a Website to identify the iPad
Make a note of the last three digits of this number as you cannot copy it to the iPad’s clipboard and we are going to need it in a moment. Go back to the homescreen and open your preferred internet browser and visit the site “http://everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup”. You will see a text entry box on this page and you need to enter the three digits here and click “Lookup”. Below details of the device will appear and that is the simple process of how to check iPad version using a simple website.
Apple Ipad Serial Number Lookup
We are very often asked about our technology products that can assist people in accessing, mounting or 'AAC-ifying' their iPads. We are asked about these A LOT.
During these conversations, it's important for us to know which model iPad is being discussed and sometimes, particularly now that Apple have iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3 in the market, that information is hard to know. So here's some links to help with the question 'Which iPad do you have?'
Identifying by Serial Number
You'll need to know your iPad serial number.
This method is handy to know if your iPad is in a case like a Griffin Survivor or LifeProof or the Model or Serial number has been rubbed off the back of your iPad or is hard to see (as shown in the picture to the right)
The serial number of your iPad can be found through your Settings App - Settings > General > About
Here's Apple's serial number step-by-step guide if needed
Once the serial number is known, it's simply a matter of entering that number into a search which results in showing the status of your iPad's service coverage, and a by-product is that the information also tells you your model automatically.
This is accomplished through Apple's Support and Service coverage status page and it can be found through the link below:
Indentifying by Model Number
You'll need to know your iPad Model number, which can be found on the back of your iPad case (see the image above)
This is a simpler approach and if you can't read your model number on the back of your iPad, then use the Serial Number method above.
Once the Model number is know, check it against the list of current and legacy iPad's on Apple's website.
We hope that helps, it'll certainly help us and I'm sure we'll be using this webpage as a reference tool in the fututre. No doubts about that at all.
Your iPad's serial number can be useful if you want to check your iPad's warranty or AppleCare+, but unlike some devices, it's not printed on a sticker stuck to the back of the device. The serial number can also be used to see if an iPad has been lost or stolen. Apple has created a website for checking the activation lock status of a device via the serial number, which makes this a great way of checking that used iPad before you buy it.
- First, you will need to go into the iPad's settings. You can accomplish this by clicking on the Settings app.
- Next, scroll down the left-side menu and tap on General.
- In the General settings, tap on About. This is the first option available.
- The serial number is located towards the bottom of the information listed on your iPad.
What else can you find out about your iPad?

The About section of settings contains a few pieces of information that you may find useful. There are many different types of iPad: iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad Mini, etc. If you are uncertain of your iPad's model, you can use the alphanumeric model to find out which iPad you own. You can also check the iPad's total and available storage from the About screen, along with interesting facts like how many songs, videos, photos, and applications you have loaded on it.
You can even give your iPad a new name by tapping the iPad's device name from the About settings.
